One Earth Future – Open Nuclear Network Logo
The goal of One Earth Future‘s Open Nuclear Network program is to reduce the risk that nuclear weapons are used in response to error, uncertainty or misdirection, particularly in the context of escalating conflict, using innovation, inclusion and dialogue supported by open source data.
Based in Vienna, Austria the Open Nuclear Network program needed a brand presence that stood out amongst other institutions operating in the international space while highlighting its commitment to partnering with other institutions and individuals to reduce nuclear risks. The logo also needed to fit within One Earth Future’s family of program brands.
The logo takes inspiration from the traditional, circular peace symbol, which first appeared in April 1958, designed by Gerald Holtom as an emblem for the British nuclear disarmament movement. Additional cross-cutting lines are added, drawing inspiration from the veins of a leaf and symbolizing a global network for nuclear risk reduction. A clean sans-serif font and a color palette reminiscent of long standing global institutions like the United Nations, present ONN as a trusted initiative with integrity.
